GAYA – The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) witnessed a high-energy transformation today as seventy aspiring journalists gathered for a landmark two-day workshop. The session, held under the guidance of Anuj Sir, featured a masterclass by Gyanwardhan, Senior Editor at Prabhat Khabar, who challenged students to rethink the traditional "generalist" approach to media.
The "Master of One" Philosophy
The highlight of the session was Gyanwardhan’s direct advice to the next generation of storytellers: "Be a master of one and a jack of none." In an era where newsrooms are shrinking and digital platforms are expanding, the Senior Editor emphasized that survival in modern media depends on specialization.
Whether it is Politics, Tech, or Business, an interviewer today is not looking for someone who "knows a little bit of everything." They are looking for the authority—the person who understands a niche so deeply that they become indispensable to the publication.
Bridging the Gap: From Theory to Digital Reality
Inspired by the "Master of One" philosophy, a new initiative has been launched within the department to provide a real-world platform for CUSB students. The Huvlio Digital Newsroom (huvlio.com) has been established as a dedicated staging ground where students can claim their specific "beats" and start building a digital portfolio.
"The goal is simple," says Himanshu, the developer behind the portal. "We are moving the workshop's lessons from the notebook to the internet. If a student chooses the Tech niche, they don't just write for a grade—they write for a global audience, optimized for Google Search and AI indexing."
The Interviewer's Lens: What Really Matters
Gyanwardhan focused heavily on the "Job Readiness" aspect of the industry. He peeled back the curtain on what happens inside a media interview. Editors today are asking:
Can you distribute your story? (SEO and Social Media Strategy)
Do you have a digital footprint? (A live portfolio)
Can you master a single niche? (Authority)
By the end of the first day, the atmosphere at CUSB was one of digital entrepreneurship. Students are no longer just "learning" journalism; they are becoming publishers.
Looking Ahead to Day 2
Tomorrow, the momentum continues as Pandey Sir is expected to deliver a keynote address. The workshop will shift its focus toward advanced reporting techniques and ethical storytelling in the age of AI. For the 70 students in attendance, the message is clear: the future belongs to those who specialize.
